West Las Vegas

The most popular place to live in Las Vegas is Summerlin, ranked America’s best-selling master-planned community ten times in the past eleven years. When you’re here it’s hard to believe that it’s still the same city that’s home to the MGM Grand, the Luxor and a dozen other mega-resort/casinos. Summerlin is located in West Las Vegas and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mojave dessert. Locals enjoy biking, hiking, and rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon which is only a short drive away. Red Rock was formed millions of years ago when two plates in the earth’s crust collided, thrusting one plate on top of the other. That is where the scenic contrast of red and grey in the majestic canyons comes from. You can pick up information on the history of Red Rock at the visitor’s center and souvenirs at the gift shop. Some of the nicest golf courses in Southern Nevada are in West Las Vegas. TPC at the Canyons is the only public PGA tour course in the city and features an elegant clubhouse. TPC in Summerlin is a member’s only club that is much more exclusive than its sister course. While golf is the main focus of the TPC in Summerlin, it also features a 35,000-square-foot clubhouse, tennis courts, a pool, spa and more than 90 miles of walking trails.

You never have to travel very far in West Las Vegas to find a high-end, fashionable shopping center. Although there is no indoor mall, there are plenty of outdoor plazas full of stylish shops and boutiques. Fashion and art are two commonplace features in this part of town. The Las Vegas Art Museum is in West Las Vegas. Emerging, local artists present their work at the museum, which has been an affiliate of the Smithsonian since 2002.
