Culture in Southern Nevada

Las Vegas has always been influenced by foreign cultures. Many casinos are based on themes from ancient architecture, art, and exotic cuisine.

Off the Strip, people spend millions to have their homes appear as works of art. One can tell by the sheer number of local museums that art is a prominent attraction in Las Vegas. Bellagio’s gallery of fine art is perhaps the city’s premiere art gallery, each year it hosting one or two exhibits that support all types of artwork from international artists and foreign museums.

The Monet exhibit at the Bellagio features pieces that are normally displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. One of the largest museums in Las Vegas is the George L. Sturman Museum of Fine Art which features artists such as Salvador Dali, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, and Willlem de Kooning. In addition to paintings, its diverse collection includes comic strip art and a well-rounded collection of African art. There are museums all over the Las Vegas Valley including the Elvis-a-Rama Museum located just off of the Strip. Elvis Presley Enterprises is currently in the process of closing the old museum so a brand new Elvis attraction can be built right on the Strip.
